What is the Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme?

WIAPS is funded by most of the leading UK water suppliers. In order to become a WIAPS member, applicants have to demonstrate that they have been suitably trained as a plumber, that they have adequate knowledge of the official regulations by passing an assessment, and they must be able to confirm that they have sufficient insurance cover.

An Approved Plumber may start work without notification or prior consent on certain types of work which can save up to ten days of waiting for the Water Supplier’s consent and reduces the paperwork of notification. They will also issue the customer with a certificate of compliance of the work when it is completed.

What is WaterSafe?

WaterSafe is a dedicated online search facility bringing together thousands of qualified contractors employed by UK plumbing businesses from the seven existing Approved Contractors’ Schemes. Their aim is to help customers to find the nearest qualified plumbing and heating professionals in their area and promote water safety in the home and for businesses.

In order to be featured on the WaterSafe website, contractors must be a member of an Approved Contractors‘ Scheme – such as the WIAPS – which ensures they are providing a quality service.

WaterSafe approved businesses must adhere to the WaterSafe customer commitmentsconditions of membership and scheme rules. Where businesses fail to meet these standards a disciplinary process applies.  A member business, which fails to uphold the standards will be subject to a range of penalties, in serious cases, this would result in membership of WaterSafe being revoked.
